From hand drafting, to CAD, to BIM, each wave of innovation created the opportunity for greater workflow efficiency. Yet each advent of technology allowed for the design and construction of more complex buildings (which in turn creates a corresponding requirement for mitigating risk). These dynamics together increase the need for ever more information ahead of construction, which - ironically - absorbs all intended efficiency. Whether the barriers are technical, cultural, legal, business and more, is the AEC industry ready to innovate past present point of diminished returns?
